Jesus, who is he?
Jesus. The person Jesus is, through world history, the most influential person ever lived. He has and continues to influence everything from culture, science and healthcare in our communities. He has changed and transformed both individuals and societies/continents and continues to do so daily, even right now as you read this.
But who is Jesus really?
Some say that he is only a man, others that he is God or the Son of God.
A short answer is that He is God, the creator AND Man!. gospel of John 1:1-3, Hebrews 1:10, gospel of John 1:12.
Having said that, it of course means that the Person Jesus has always existed, without an beginning and without an end. The name Jesus is a Greek form of his Hebrew name Yeshua which means ”Jehovah/Yahweh saves” or ”Jehovah/Yahweh is the salvation”. Jehovah/Yehova/Yahve is the name of the God of the Bible shared by three persons/consciousnesses!
You may now be thinking ”but Jesus was born in Bethlehem about 2000 years ago, how could he have existed before his birth?”.
That’s right, before Jesus was born with his human body, Jesus co-existed in spiritual/immaterial form, together with the Father and Holy Spirit in a loving relationship in eternity before anything created existed. The sum of the books of the Bible teaches that the One God exists as the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, three persons One God, completely unique and one of a kind.
Three Distinct persons/consciousnesses but not separated, how it goes together the Bible does not teach.
It transcends our limited understanding. Which is not so strange when we talk about God who alone is unlimited and no human similes/analogies can fully explain God’s existence.
So what may not be possible for man and pass our understanding that are limited creations need not apply and be impossible for the unlimited being we call God, if we think so we liken God to something in creation, which the Bible goes against, 1 Kings 8 :23. That is why God is the one and only God who alone is completely unique, no one and nothing in creation can be compared to the God of the Bible.
Having said that, it was so that the Son took on a new nature, a human nature in addition to his Divine nature, it happened when Mary became pregnant, a miracle which is called the incarnation gospel of Luke 1:34-37, God became flesh ( human) gospel of John 1:1, 14. So Jesus the Son of God has two natures, 100% God and 100% human united in him. The GodMan, Jesus!
To his human nature, Jesus was born of a virgin named Mary, who was from the tribe of Judah, one of the 12 tribes of Israel. Jesus’ earthly stepfather was named Joseph and was a carpenter.
Before the birth of Jesus the Son of God, in his spiritual/immaterial existence he had other names and titles, He was prophesied about, presented and revealed to the prophets and the people of the Old Testament all according to Jesus’ own words (gospel of Luke 24:25-27), among others. as:
The Word of God/Yahweh – gospel of John 1:1, Jeremiah 1:4-5, 1 Samuel 3:4-9, 21.
Angel of Yahweh (who is God Himself)- Genesis 16:7-13, 31:11-13, 35:1-7, Genesis 48:15-16, Isaiah 63:7-9.
Mighty God- Isaiah 9:6.
Yahweh – Isaiah 6:1-5 (cf. gospel of John 1:18 and 12:41), Jeremiah 23:6.
