Jesus throughout the Bible
Jesus, the Son of God, is found throughout the Bible. Both in the New and Old Testaments.
Before Jesus was born as a man, He was with God.
Jesus is the Word of God through which the entire universe was created.
Gospel of John 1:1-5
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. Through Him all things were made, and without Him nothing was made that is. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
Gospel of John 1:14-18
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, a glory that the Only Begotten has from the Father, and He was full of grace and truth. John testifies about Him and cries out: ”It was about Him that I said: He who comes after me is before me, because he was before me.” From his fullness we have all received, grace and again grace. For the law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God. The Only Begotten, who is God Himself, and is with the Father, has made Him known.
It was prophesied in the Old Testament that Jesus would be born and come and save the whole world:
Genesis 3:15
And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed. This (Jesus) shall crush your head, and you shall strike Him in the heel.
In Psalm 22, King David prophesies, about 1000 years before Jesus was born, that He would be crucified:
Psalm 22:17-19
Dogs surround me,
the company of the wicked surrounds me,
my hands and feet
have they pierced.
I can count all my bones,
they look at me, they stare.
They share my clothes between them
and cast lots for my clothing.
Gospel of John 19:23-24
The soldiers who had crucified Jesus took his clothes and divided them into four parts, one for each soldier. They also took the life clothing. But it was without seams, woven in one piece, from top to bottom. Therefore they said to each other: ”We will not cut it in pieces, but cast lots as to who shall have it.” For the Scripture would be fulfilled: They divided my clothes among them and cast lots for my clothing. So did the soldiers now.
